Majickk sound. A conversation with John Grzinich

By Marika Agu

On the first episode of Majickk Sound, the host Marika Agu interviews sound artist John Grzinich to discuss his current practice, developments in the field of sound art and tackle his personal ambivalence towards the variety of sounds. The podcast features a snippet from Geofractions (2021), a composition consisting of field recordings of the extractive and residual mining processes in Ida-Virumaa, as well as a track titled Recurrent Territories (2005), recorded and produced while travelling in Estonia, Germany, Italy and USA.
John Grzinich’s extensive sound practice involves field recording, kinetic sculptures, electro-acoustic composition, filmmaking, performance, group workshops and exercises in listening. Currently he is teaching as associate professor in the new media department at the Estonian Academy of Arts. Check his Bandcamp and website for further info.

Marika Agu is currently working as curator and archivist at the Estonian Centre for Contemporary Art. She has cultivated projects from a range of topics, such as archives, material culture and writing within contemporary art context.
